Is Life Coaching for me?
Coaching is for anyone and everyone who seeks to improve and unlock the power within themselves. There are coaches in almost every aspect of life. From personal trainers, professional athletes to executive coaches. There are speaking coaches, ministry coaches, relationship coaches, career coaches, etc. The list goes on and on. These coaches help their clients reach there full potential in whatever area of life they are struggling with or just want to improve in. A coach will help you reach your goal in the shortest amount of time by working to overcome the obstacles and challenges you might face.
What is a Life Coach?
What is a Life Coach? I have heard that time and time again. I have seen several definitions as to what Life Coaching is…”Life coaching is a professional service providing clients with feedback, insights and guidance from an outside vantage point”…or as Wikipedia would say…“Life coaching has its roots in executive coaching, which itself drew on techniques developed in management consulting and leadership training. Life coaching also draws inspiration from disciplines including sociology, psychology, positive adult development, career counseling, mentoring and other types of counseling.”
Before we answer what Life Coaching is, let’s clarify what Life Coaching is not. Life Coaching is not a method or way to pass judgment, condemn, criticize or place values on you that are not in line with your own value system. Life Coaching is not just a cheering section with no sound structure behind it, although we will celebrate your victories. Life Coaching is not counseling. It will not fix any mental or emotional problems of your past. It can however help you to create new productive habits that lead to success. It can also help you to re-connect to what is truly important to you.
So what is Life Coaching? Life coaching is “action-based, solution-oriented, and concentrates on forward motion and progress. In one simple sentence…“Life Coaching looks at where you’re at and where you want to be, and helps you to bridge the gap between the two. “
Life Coaching is goal oriented and action driven. Your Life Coach will help you achieve your goals in a logical, structured manner. Sometimes we may ask you to think outside of the box or go to your unknown or uncomfortable zone but you will never go to any place that you do not want to venture.
Think about how many different type of coaches there are. There are sports coaches, executive coaches, personal coaches, business coaches, speaking coaches just to name a few. Even people who have a natural God given talent or ability often hire a coach to help them achieve their goals. Why? Because a coach can see things that you may not be able to at the time. That and they have someone to be held accountable to. Have you ever noticed how much more we can do when we are held accountable than when we are not?
So now you have a better understanding of a Life Coach. But what does a Life Coach do or what can a Life Coach do for you? Or better yet, what can WE do for you and what kind of coaching do we offer? We specialize in Relationship Coaching, Life Balance or Life improvement Coaching, Divorce and Separation Coaching and Personal Coaching.
-
Relationship Coaching – This is one of my favorite areas. Maybe you are thinking about getting married or maybe you are already married and just want to strengthen your relationship. Maybe you just want to re-connect with your spouse again. We will look at what is important to each of you and address the areas that could become potential problems. You will learn how to communicate better, listen better and even argue in a more productive respectful manner without offending the other person. We can also look at ways to increase quality time together. This is an area of coaching that we can also work with my wife Angela who is also a certified Life Coach as well as a Professional Counselor.
-
Life Balance/Improvement Coaching – This is where we will take stock of who you are and where you are as a whole in your life. You will look at your personal relationships, career desires, religious beliefs, health, and money just to name a few. You will then be able to find which areas you are lacking in and how you can improve in them. What I have found over the course of this coaching is that sometimes one area can affect other aspects of your life. So addressing one area can actually drastically improve several areas at the same time.
-
Divorce and/or Separation Coaching – Are you divorced or separated and feeling confused and lost? This is a normal feeling. Together we will navigate the ups and downs that come with this difficult time in your life. Maybe there will be reconciliation between you and your spouse or maybe that relationship chapter in your life will end. Either way we will work together to help clarify your wants and how you will go about achieving them. You will learn how to re-connect to the one closest to you- yourself. You will learn your strengths and weaknesses and what your self worth really is. Although this can sometimes be an emotional journey it can be one of the greatest discoveries of your life.
-
Personal Coaching – This is an area where you might know what you want to accomplish but just don’t know how to start or how to get there. Together we will work to find the best avenue for you to take to reach your goals. We will look at your strengths as well as address your weaknesses and see how you can best use these tools to your advantage.
